A counterpoint to the Statue of Liberty,
this 300-foot tall monument would be built
on an island at a west coast port.
Holocaust survivor Dr. Victor Frankl, a psychiatrist, proposed its creation.
"Freedom," he said, "is only part of the story and half of the truth.
Freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon
whose positive aspect is responsibleness.
In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating
into mere arbitrariness
unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness."
There would, of course, be a gift shop
on the top level.
