The Mountain Republic

Floyd, Virginia. Pop. 432.
County seat of Floyd County.
About 40 miles south of Roanoke.
Six miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Close to Heaven.

It is a regional destination for bluegrass and old-time
music players. In May and June 2011 it will host
the National Music Festival, a two-week
event bringing together world-class music
teachers from major orchestras, performing
20 concerts and 250 free open rehearsals.

This year Floyd hosts Floydfest X on
July 28-31, featuring Taj Mahal,
David Grisman, Hot Tuna,
North Mississippi Allstars, Donna the Buffalo,
Toubab Krewe, Peter Rowan, and Del McCoury.

Roy Acuff's "Wabash Cannonball" at the
Floyd Country Store.

Mother Earth News ranks Floyd as one of the six
spots in America as "Great Places You've (Maybe)
Never Heard Of," thanks to its green businesses, artisans,
local food producers, and rich folk music tradition.

Old-timey music every Sunday afternoon
and Monday night at the Country Store.
Ask for the canned possum.
It is special.

No waiting at Floyd's

Old times there are not forgotten.
